Tim Garner

Gary Ogborn Jr
Domenick Degrazia
Chris Oberman
Three-time track champion Ken Knight had his heating problems solved from the opening races two weeks ago, and his son from Fernley was here to race with him. Ken was on top of the world Friday, beaming from ear to ear; nothing would ruin this night. Ken won his heat race and another Fernley star Chris Oberman took the honors in the second one over Kevin Knight, Ken’s son. The Mini Mod feature saw Ken outside first row with Kevin one row back. Ken’s smile was a little wider by this time; the initial green was out, they were racing. Ken Knight took the lead immediately over Oberman, but by they completed the first go around, Kevin was right in back of dad. Ken drove one of his best nights at the track, leading one lap after another; but Kevin was glued to his rear bumper, ready to pass if he could. Ken was the teacher this night and Kevin was a pupil, one that happened in life many times over the years. As the laps ran out, the announcers said out loud if Kevin was toying with him. If he did, we would never know. With one to go, one could almost see that bigger than life smile on Ken’s smile. Down the back chute, into three, setting up for four, and then for the charge for the checker, and whoops. Ken bobbled trying to set up for the front chute; guess who was one the inside? Kevin, that’s who! That bobble was just enough to let son Kevin to win. Kevin taught dad a lesson: ‘I was paying attention, but you might taught me a little to good about racing. ’ This was Kevin Knight’s first feature win here at Winnemucca, the first time that he beat his dad here. At Kevin’s home track in Fernley, he would beat the old man all the time. Too bad the Fernley track has closed, as Ken would have reciprocated there next time. After the race, Ken’s smile was even wider than before, saying, “ Pink finally got me here. I’m proud, and I hope he continues to race here. It’s fun!!!”
